Why Wedding Insurance?

It’s time to plan your big day, choose your wedding date and start booking your dream reception venue and other wedding suppliers.

Before you marry the love of your life and say I do in front of your loved ones, consider what would happen if something didn’t go to plan. Would you be able to afford a last minute cancellation or venue change? Not many soon to be wedding couples can.

Even the smallest weddings can experience disappointments, cancellations and disasters. Regardless how extravagant or intimate your wedding is, you don’t want to be stressing about everything going to plan. You want to enjoy and embrace what the day is really about, LOVE.

According to a survey run by Bride to Be magazine in 2016, the average cost of a wedding in Australia is now $65,482.

With costs including venue hire, catering, flowers, decorations, outfits and photography it is easy to see how quickly it all adds up as well as how many suppliers are involved in your special day.

So what does Wedding Insurance Cover?

Policies can be different but they normally cover the cancellation or rescheduling of a wedding due to accident, unexpected illness or bereavement within the wedding party.

Cover for a supplier going out of business and loss of the deposit, or supplier cancellation at the last minute without provision of a refund are usually covered in the policy as well.

There is also cover for things like additional costs for photographers not showing up on the day, wedding documents and theft or damage of wedding items and there may also be cover for someone getting injured at the wedding event.

Different Insurance companies have different covers and limits so it’s important that you read the fine print to see what is included and if it’s the right cover for you.

Most wedding insurance policies are packaged so that you can choose the level of cover you need and it’s easy to work out the costs.

It’s also important to understand what you’re not covered for, the main one being the wedding couple changing their mind and if there are things that you are already aware of that may lead to a claim that may not be covered.

How much should I Insure my wedding for?

As most wedding planners would advise, you need to have a budget and understand all of the individual wedding supplier contracts. Checking how much the deposit is, when the following payments need to be made, and what the refund policy is for each wedding supplier. You should make your decision based on the overall budget, how much you are paying for deposits and find a package that covers these aspects.

Can I take out cover for Civil Ceremonies?

Yes, there really isn’t any difference for the Insurance companies so they will cover most types of ceremonies.
